KROUSANIOTISSA – AGRICULTURAL & COTTAGE INDUSTRY COOPERATIVE OF KROUSONAS
Organic Products Malevizi Posted 3 weeks ago
With faith and respect for the traditions of our land, we created the first Women’s Agro-Industrial Cooperative of Heraklion Prefecture, based in Krousonas, under the name “Krousaniotissa.”
Our cooperative consists of twenty active women who, with enthusiasm, passion, and hard work, prepare traditional products following the recipes of our grandmothers. We use pure Cretan olive oil from Krousonas, raisins, wine, honey, almonds, walnuts, and fresh mountain fruits produced in “Livadí,” a plateau located above Krousonas at an altitude of 1,000 meters. (Livadí is mentioned in Plato’s “Laws.” It lies along the route followed by the Minoans on their way to the sacred cave of Ideon Andron, with an intermediate stop at Zominthos.)
Some of the products we make include anevato kalitsouni, anevato tsibisto koulouri, almond sweets, wine cookies, chilopites (traditional pasta), rusks, xerotigana, and spoon sweets. (For example, the anevato kalitsouni is made with sourdough, exactly as it was in the old days, while the decorated festive bread is crafted with care by our expert decorators — a time-consuming process that results in a true work of art.)
Our Cooperative has established a sales network with many partner shops throughout Crete (Heraklion, Rethymnon, Chania, Agios Nikolaos), Athens, Thessaloniki, and the Greek islands. Through multinational distributors, our products also reach international markets such as Germany and other countries.Your continued support gives us the strength to keep going and to help spread the “traditional Cretan diet” across the world, promoting it as a way of life.
